Waldhaus Restaurant

Waldhaus means “forest house” in German and that is exactly what this charming Bavarian building is. Located in the pine trees where the Bow and Spray Rivers meet, it sits on its own yet is only steps away from the Banff Springs Hotel. The views are not fantastic from the inside but the ambiance is rustic and very appealing; our favourite dishes are the Wiener schnitzel, baked onion soup, duo of spring creek beef and the chocolate fondue – the cheese fondues are also excellent.
Request a table in the stone-floored turret section and listen to the roar of the waterfalls through the opening windows or in the main 2 story chalet-style room next to the roaring stone fireplace.
P.S. If you’ve only got time for one pint while you’re here in the summer may I suggest the outdoor terrace just below the Waldhaus. The views of the Spray River, Rundle Mountain and golf course are, hands down, the best in the Rockies.
You’ll need to walk up or down several flights of outside stairs to get here, don’t let it deter you though, the short jaunt is well worth it!
Park either at the Bow Falls parking lot (on your way to the golf course) or at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.
